Our Story
The story of Baiyue Tours began years before the travel agency even existed. It grew out of the Baiyue Tea Society Education Program, which focuses on providing education in entrepreneurial skills, English, and sustainable business practices to young individuals in the greater Ha Giang community. In order to make a living, a number of former students have needed to get jobs with tour companies that do not practice ethical or sustainable tourism within the region. The program was formed as direct response, giving indigenous tribes (students and other guides) fair wages, safety, and full dignity.
At Baiyue Tours, we specialize in providing unique and immersive travel experiences that allow you to explore the rich culture and breathtaking landscapes of Ha Giang province.
Wherever possible, Baiyue Tours aims to foster small-scale, sustainable initiatives that build capacity and resilience. These projects can be directly linked to our tours or explore other vital areas of support. Examples of our initiatives include animal husbandry, handicraft production, and catering. Together, we can create a brighter future for those in need while enriching the travel experience for all.
We are dedicated to transparency, holding ourselves accountable for all our projects, which may be shared publicly to inspire others—unless confidentiality is requested by those involved.
Our Guides
Our team is made up of locals from the Hmông, Red Dzao, Tay tribes in order to provide to our participants with the best travel through our shared experience. We live in the villages we visit, work here, and know the region both personally and professionally. We speak the local ethnic languages as well as English to communicate with you, and translate for you and our communities. We are not just tour guides, but also local people who are passionately committed to eradicating extreme poverty by prioritizing local disadvantaged women and youth. Every tour is an opportunity to address the vulnerabilities of families, groups, and communities we encounter.
Trieu Kao
Meet Triệu Kao, a true local from the Red Dzao tribe in Ha Giang. Growing up in a family with deep traditions, his life has been shaped by the land and its crafts. His family has long cultivated traditional tea, and he learned the art of carpentry from his father and intricate embroidery from his mother.
Kao’s village is often called the "capital" of terraced rice fields and wild Snow Shan tea trees. He is proud of his heritage and wants to share the authentic beauty of his home with you. He’s excited to invite you on a tour to meet his family and experience their unique way of life firsthand.
Nong Xuan Thuy
Nông Xuân Thủy, your guide and the coordinator of our Microfinance program. Thủy comes from the Tày ethnic group, raised in a picturesque village surrounded by green streams and cinnamon trees.
His tasks are built around a powerful purpose: to combat extreme poverty. He guides you not just through the landscape, but through our social mission. During your trip, you will spend time with the recipients of our microcredit, visiting their homes and villages. This unique opportunity, facilitated by our translators, allows you to learn about the challenges faced by women and other disadvantaged people in Ha Giang, blending local history and culture with powerful personal stories. You are usually invited to enjoy a traditional cuisine at his village with locals as a true highlight of the tour.
