WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

Our goal is to provide unique, ethical, educational experiences for travelers with the intent to uplift the ethnic minorities in Ha Giang — communities we, at Baiyue Tours, belong to. Baiyue Tours was formed to make sure that our friends, family, and communities are not exploited by unethical, profit-driven tour agencies and international businesses. By centering indigenous knowledge and needs, we prioritize sustainable and socially responsible tourism that directly benefits Ha Giang's ethnic minorities and their land. Our tours are unique, authentic, and off-the-beaten-path, allowing you the rare opportunity to get to know Ha Giang and its ethnic minority residents on a deeper level. All of our profits are circulated directly back into the ethnic minority communities, so you'll be directly supporting the communities you visit. It's a win-win!

CONTEXT & VISION

Northern Vietnam holds a wealth of cultural diversity and natural beauty, but the rapid growth of tourism has put the local communities and land at risk. In order to preserve their cultures while ensuring they can be the beneficiaries of this increase in tourism, we provide a space for local peoples to learn and teach about their own traditions, develop expertise and skills for them to make a living, and ultimately realize their potential. With this growth and knowledge, our students return to their communities as changemakers with a deeper sense of responsibility, connection, and love for their heritage and their homes.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

At Baiyue Tours, we are committed to socially and environmentally responsible development.

Support local communities: We prioritize supporting local communities by partnering with local businesses, eating at local restaurants, and staying at locally-owned homestays.
Respect culture: We emphasize the importance of respecting local culture and customs during our tours. Check out our guide to socially responsible tourism for more information on how you can take action.
Environmental awareness: By making sure that the ethnic communities are properly compensated for their involvement in tours, we enable them to avoid exploitative, multinational companies who are clear-cutting their land for unsustainable, profit-driving farming. In doing so, the ethnic minority farmers are able to preserve their traditional, sustainable farming methods, benefiting both the communities and the land. "I already had an interest in tea when I arrived in Hà Giang. I started at the Tea House of Baiyue Tribes. Soon I was invited for a drive into the mountains to see the old tee trees and more local trees and crops. Afterwards we drank Trà shan tuyết, which is the leaves from the old tea trees prepared on a fire. I enjoyed local stories about local food, crops and the history. If you have more time than one day you can sleep in the mountains and hike even higher to see much older tea trees. This will be your highlight of your Vietnam trip. If you are only used to tea bags your eyes and senses will be opened to a different tea experience."
